Replit custom domain works on www but the bare domain shows an error

www.mytailorshop.ng works fine and shows my Replit app. mytailorshop.ng without www gives "This site can't be reached". I only linked www in Replit because that's what the tutorial did.

What I’ve tried

Added a CNAME for the root in my registrar, it says CNAME is not allowed on @.

The root ("apex") can't have a CNAME, that's a DNS rule, not your registrar being difficult.

Two options:

  1. Link the bare domain in Replit as a second custom domain. It gives you an A record + TXT for @. Add those.
  2. Or use your registrar's URL forwarding: mytailorshop.ng → https://www.mytailorshop.ng (301). Simple, one canonical URL.

I'd do 2, most registrars support it and you avoid duplicate content.

my registrar forwarding only works for http not https... so the https version still fails ifeoma · edited

If your registrar's forwarding can't do HTTPS, then option 1 is the one. Or move DNS to Cloudflare (free) and use a redirect rule there, which handles https properly. Just keep the records for Replit on DNS-only.

Some registrars offer ALIAS or ANAME records at the root, which behave like a CNAME. If yours has that, it's an option too.
